History

PS1 is a family-oriented, independent, non-profit elementary school nestled in the heart of Santa Monica.

It was founded in 1971 by Joel and Eleanor Pelcyger in response to the need among Westside parents and teachers for stimulating, relevant programs geared toward the education of the whole child. PS1 quickly acquired a reputation for producing capable and connected citizens. PS1 grads are sought after by the prominent independent middle schools for their academic strengths matched by their joy of learning, their confidence in tackling new concepts, and their ease in social situations.

PS1 is constantly reflecting, researching and enhancing the curriculum to meet the changing needs of our students and our families.
