Admissions
Enrollment opportunities at every grade level
With the completion of our eighth classroom, we are enrolling more students at every grade level for the 2008-09 school year.
Applying to PS#1
Students must be at least 5 years old by September 1st of the year in which they wish to enroll. We give priority to the first 100 applications we receive for our incoming class of 5 and 6 year olds. After the first 100 and for older applicants, we process applications on a space-available basis. A non-refundable application fee must be submitted with your application form.
Parent Tour
Both parents need to tour the school before their admissions interview. Tours are for parents only and give you a chance to ask questions and experience our program in person. Space is limited and reservations are required. Contact the Admissions Office to reserve a spot, or sign up for a tour online.
Child Visit
This is a time for prospective students to interact with their age group and participate in the daily life of the school. The child’s visit lasts an hour for 4-6 year olds and a half or full day for applicants ages 7 and above.
Parent Interview
Parents meet with a member of our admissions committee to discuss their family’s educational needs, expectations and goals. Both parents must attend this meeting.
Evaluation Forms
Evaluation forms to be completed by your child’s current school are included in our Admissions packet. They should be returned to PS#1 directly by fax or in the envelope provided.
Please Note: There are two different forms, one for students already enrolled in elementary school and one for preschool students. We should receive the preschool evaluation form in early January.
If other professionals have worked with or assessed your child, please include those evaluations along with your application form. All information is strictly confidential.
Financial Aid
No child is denied acceptance because of an inability to pay full tuition; more than 20% of our families receive Financial Aid. Our Financial Aid Committee meets in early March to allocate all the available funding for the year. Your Financial Aid forms must be completed by the assigned deadlines, so please let us know as soon as possible if you wish to receive an application.
Notification of Application Status
Acceptance letters are sent in March for enrollment the following September. In order to meet this date, the application process must be completed by early February. After our first applicant pool is complete, late applications are processed on a space-available basis.
Once accepted, we require a non-refundable tuition deposit, a signed enrollment contract, and a completed set of enrollment forms to reserve a place for your child.
Wait Pool
Because we cannot accommodate all applicants, we keep an active wait pool at all times. Applications in the wait pool are not prioritized, but are considered based on our need to balance class groupings. By request, applications can be forwarded for consideration in subsequent years.
