Academics

At PS1, curiosity fuels discovery. Through inquiry-based projects, hands-on exploration, and open-ended questions, natural wonder transforms into confidence and capability. Students learn not just what to think, but how to think, and how to explain their thinking - building the problem-solving, creativity, and initiative that define lifelong learners.

Deeply Personal Learning

Every child is known, valued, and supported as an individual. With small class sizes and a close-knit community, teachers meet students where they are, stretching their talents while nurturing their academic, social, and emotional growth. Learning is both joyful and challenging because it is built around each child’s needs, strengths, and interests.

Purposeful Education

We believe how we teach is just as important as what we teach. Our curriculum integrates intellectual rigor with social-emotional learning so students grow in both skill and character. Critical thinking, collaboration, empathy, resilience, and reflection are woven into every experience, helping children become confident, compassionate learners.

A Connected and Inclusive Community

Pluralism is the foundation of PS1. Belonging isn’t a goal — it’s a daily reality. Through mixed-age groupings, collaborative projects, and community traditions, students learn to value every voice and understand what it means to be part of something bigger than themselves.

The Role of Teachers

PS1 teachers are mentors, guides, and collaborators. They combine deep expertise in child development with a genuine ability to know each child as an individual. Teaching in teams of two per classroom, their flexibility, creativity, and compassion create classrooms where students feel safe taking risks, exploring new ideas, and expressing themselves fully. Because faculty know students so well, they can challenge them to reach their full potential — and celebrate them for who they are.

Confident, Capable Learners

By sixth grade, PS1 students are articulate, self-assured, and intrinsically motivated. They leave with curiosity, capability, and compassion — fully prepared to thrive in secondary school and in life.
