Student Support
At PS1, we are committed to supporting the academic, social, and emotional growth of every student. Our goal is to help children develop into motivated, engaged, independent, and confident learners within a collaborative, inquiry-based environment.
The LEARN Team
Our LEARN Team provides an integrated network of support for students, teachers, and families. This team includes:
-
Director of Teaching and Learning
-
Director of Student and Community Life
-
Two Math Coordinators
-
Literacy Interventionist
Together, these educators partner with classroom teachers and the Head of School to design a learning environment that is both nurturing and challenging—meeting students where they are while helping them grow to their fullest potential.
Partnering with Families
Supporting students also means supporting families. PS1 regularly offers Parent Education opportunities where caregivers can learn, ask questions, and engage in open, thoughtful conversations. Sometimes this takes the form of welcoming guest speakers and experts to campus; other times, it looks like more intimate cozy conversations led by our Director of Teaching and Learning and Director of Student and Community Life. Topics have included:
-
Child development and emerging adolescence
-
Social development, friendship, and sibling dynamics
-
Math Night (a hands-on opportunity for parents to learn about our math program)
-
Digital citizenship and children in a media-driven world
Guest speakers have included leading experts and authors such as Michael Thompson, Madeline Levine, Richard Louv, Lori Getz, Pattie Fitzgerald, Yalda Uhls, and others. As a member of Common Sense Media's Connected Schools, PS1 also provides families with trusted resources on technology, media use, and digital literacy.
In addition, our partnerships with Private School Village and Axis expand these learning opportunities, offering community-wide workshops, facilitated conversations, and collaborative parent education events focused on equity, identity, and belonging.
