Beyond the Classroom

At PS1, learning does not stop when students leave their homeroom. We believe that education comes alive when children are given opportunities to explore their passions, discover new talents, and grow in unexpected ways. Programs beyond the classroom extend and enrich the PS1 experience, helping every child find joy, connection, and confidence in multiple arenas.

Specialist Classes

From Art and Music to Library, Spanish, PE, and The Studio (STEAM), our six Specialist classes invite students to stretch their creativity, build new skills, and engage their minds and bodies in dynamic ways. These programs add depth and variety to each school day and reflect our commitment to educating the whole child.

Enrichment & Extended Care

Learning and fun continue before and after school through a wide range of enrichment classes and Extended Day programs. Whether trying a new hobby, diving deeper into an existing interest, or simply spending time with friends in a safe and supportive space, students experience PS1’s community-centered approach all day long. 

Camping & Outdoor Education

The annual camping trip is one of the most beloved PS1 traditions. By living together in nature, students practice independence, build friendships, and discover leadership skills that last well beyond the campsite. Hiking, cooking, exploring, and connecting under the stars create memories that become part of every child’s PS1 story.

Summer Camp

Our PS1 Summer Camp brings the same joyful spirit of discovery into the summer months. Open to PS1 students and friends, the camp blends creativity, play, and exploration, allowing children to stay connected to their community while continuing to grow in new directions.

Service Learning

Service Learning is woven into life at PS1. Through hands-on projects that support both our school and the wider community, students learn empathy, responsibility, and the joy of making a meaningful difference.

Learning Expeditions

PS1’s Learning Expeditions take learning out into Los Angeles, connecting classroom studies with real-world experiences. Whether exploring museums, science centers, or local landmarks, students build curiosity, confidence, and a deeper understanding of the world around them.
