Camping Trips

The PS1 Camping Trip - More Than a Tradition
Each year, the PS1 camping trip offers students a chance to step away from daily routines and immerse themselves in nature, community, and adventure. What begins as a school tradition quickly becomes a transformative experience, full of learning, growth, and joy. Students in grades two and above spend two nights camping together, while our youngest students in K–1 join for an extended day trip designed just for them.
Nature Awaits
The Santa Monica Mountains and nearby coastline provide the backdrop for exploration and discovery:
-
Hiking local trails
-
Learning about surrounding ecosystems
-
Visiting the beach and tide pools (with lifeguards on duty, conditions permitting)
-
Sleeping in tents beneath a sky full of stars
Why We Camp
Independence and Responsibility
Children practice taking care of themselves and one another. From pitching in as part of a team to learning new skills, they build confidence and experience the joy that comes with shared responsibility.
Friendship and Connection
Camping creates space for friendships to flourish. Students deepen existing bonds and form new ones, connecting in ways that go far beyond the classroom walls.
Leadership in Action
A new environment often reveals new strengths. Whether solving problems, stepping into a leadership role, or simply trying something new, students discover fresh ways to shine.
Living together, preparing meals, and experiencing nature—without parents—creates a unique space for resilience, teamwork, and independence to grow.
