PS1 students joined together across all grade levels to celebrate Human Rights Day through songs, hands-on activities, and dance, led by our Specialist teachers. Themes of Respect, Truth, Kindness, and Social Justice were discussed.
Human Rights Day is celebrated all across the world on December 10th every year. This year at PS1, students celebrated the event by focusing on the theme of truth vs bias and what that means in the lives of children. The entire school came together at a community Circle Time to share in the message through songs, dances, and activities led by our Specialist teachers. We also heard a first-hand account of one PS1 student who volunteered this past summer with refugees in Greece. The theme of Human Rights is of particular importance to PS1, as a Pluralistic school, each and every day as we emphasize our mission and core Curriculum Values of Identity, Stewardship, Citizenship, Community Awareness, Social Justice, Environmental Awareness, and Global Awareness.
