CGI, COGNITIVE GUIDED INSTRUCTION - PARENT EDUCATION MATH NIGHT AT PS1! Close to 100 parents attended our CGI Math evening, led by Janene Ward, director of the UCLA Mathematics Project.

We played and learned. We worked alone and together with others. We had a prolonged wonderful discussion about math and about how to make it come alive for us and children. SO WHAT ABOUT MEMORIZING MATH FACTS? Does that have a place in a child's learning math at PS1? Of course it does. CGI is a research-based method that gives teachers the tools to understand their students' mathematical thinking and to build on it. In addition, we follow the Common Core mathematics standards for our underlying structure and comprehensive mathematics program at PS1.
