From Readers to Writers: Learning to Craft Our Own Fantasy Worlds

As they dive into their fantasy series, Olders students are not only immersed in the captivating worlds of their books but are also critically reflecting on the authors' creative choices and the deeper messages woven into the narratives. Last week, they had the exciting opportunity to take this learning a step further by meeting in person with Erika Lewis, the acclaimed author of Kelcie Murphy and The Academy for the Unbreakable Arts.

During her visit, Lewis shared insights into the art of world-building and character development, offering a behind-the-scenes look at the creative process of bringing fantastical stories to life. Inspired by her advice, students will now apply what they've learned to their own fantasy writing projects. Over the next month, they’ll craft original stories, putting their new skills to the test and stepping into the role of author themselves.
